Console games can be played on PC

It is possible to play PS1, Playstation 2, PS3 and Wii games on PC and now even on Android phones, thanks to emulators like ePSXe, PCSX2, AETHERSX2, Dolphin or RPCS3.

So why play console games on PC ?

The first - big - advantage to play consoles games on PC is that the emulators have options which allow you to drastically increase the games visuals... like setting the resolution over 1920x1080, add textures filtering, shaders, etc...
Playing PS1 and PS2 games on PC and setting the options right make them look amazing compared to when you play them on the actual Playstation 1 and Playstation 2 consoles.

The second advantage is the ability to put your games in your laptop or mobile phones and be able to play them when you are far away from home : No need to take the consoles, pads and a TV screen with you.
For the commands, it is possible to play with the pads, keyboard or to connect console pads to your laptop.

And last but not least, when playing with the emulators you can fight other players online, which wasn't possible with the Playstation 2 version of Dragon Ball Z Budokai Tenkaichi 3.

Is playing a console game on PC authorized ?

To play a Playstation 2 game on PC is legal at the condition of owning a legal copy of the game and the original Playstation 2 console.
Even today, Playstation 2 games can be bought online, used and even news when it comes to fans favorites games like Tenkaichi 3.
Also, in March 2023, Gamespot reported that the Dolphin Emulator is coming to Steam this year.

How to make Playstation 2 games look better with PCSC2

This step by step video tutorial will help you make your PS2 games look better when you play them on the PCSX2 emulator.
The game used in the tutorial is Tenkaichi 3 but this works with other games too.
Also, with this tutorial you can see the difference between how the game looks by default and how it looks on the PCSC2 emulator when you set the visual options to High.
Please note that you need a decent graphics card if you want to play with high quality graphics.

Update : The versions 1.6.0 and 1.7.0 of the PCSX2 emulator sure make more games playables but they don't emulate some games as good as the previous versions used too (in particular when playing in higher resolution) and unfortunately Dragon Ball Z Budokai Tenkaichi 3 is amongs the games which are concerned.
So, ideally use the version 1.2.1 for playing at Tenkaichi 3.
That said, some of the graphical glitches can be fixed, like for example removing the thick border lignes around the characters.

How to make PCSX2 run faster

Some players who own an old PC or mobile phone may need to lower the graphics in PCSC2 so the games are emulated at a decent speed (= not too low).
